Autumn 2012 Concert

Sunday 14 October 2012 at 8:45 am

St Edburg's Church, Bicester
Conductor: Jerry Lanning

Elgar: Froissart Overture
Coates: Saxo-Rhapsody
Glazunov: Saxophone Concerto Op.109
Dvorak: Symphony No. 9 (From the New World)

with Hayley Lambert - saxophone

  • St. Edburg’s Church was filled with beautiful Harvest flower arrangements  - yellow and orange dahlias, chrysanths, sunflowers, gladioli and roses, arranged together with various hips and berries, looking absolutely stunning as the autumn sun shone in for Trinity Camerata’s October Sunday afternoon concert.

Elgar’s classic Froissart overture was followed by the light-hearted Saxo-Rhapsody by Eric Coates, with saxophone soloist Hayley Lambert playing superbly and with  the large and enthusiastic audience really enjoying the syncopated dance band section at the end of the piece.

The Glazunov Concerto for Saxophone is a lovely piece for just solo saxophone and strings and, again, Hayley played beautifully and effortlessly.  In the second half Dvorak’s very popular “New World” Symphony No. 9 set the audience humming to the well known melodies, with excellent solo work from members of the orchestra.

Once again St. Edburg’s provided a splendid setting for a memorable concert.

  • Haven’t been to a concert for years and it was brilliant.

  • I want to be able to play my saxophone like that.

    - a young saxophone student
  • I didn’t know we had such a professional orchestra in our area. I shall certainly come again.

  • First time I have heard the classical saxophone – I shall have to buy a CD!
